Doppelmayr Mexico inaugurated the Teleférico Uruapan, transforming sustainable mobility in Michoacán
Doppelmayr, the global leader in ropeway transportation systems, has successfullylaunched the Uruapan ropeway, a milestone in public infrastructure developed in closecollaboration with the Government of the State of Michoacán. The project representsone of the most significant social mobility initiatives of the current administration –improving access, connectivity and quality of life for thousands of residents acrossUruapan.A strategic, state-funded investment in urban mobilityWith a public investment of MXN $3,200 million (ca. 157 million EUR), the Teleférico Uruapan is astrategic, fully state-funded project designed to provide a modern, efficient and affordable publictransport system. Uruapan, home to 357,000 residents and generating 8.5% of Michoacán’s GDP,now benefits from an integrated mobility solution that supports both the city’s social and economicdevelopment goals.Fast, reliable connections across the citySpanning eight kilometers from east to west, the urban ropeway reduces travel times to just 27minutes, cutting typical travel times by half compared to bus rides. Furthermore, it helps toreduce long-standing challenges related to road congestion and urban segregation. The ropewaysystem features six strategically located stations connecting the city’s main economic, healthcare,and public service hubs:● Hospital Regional● Libramiento Aeropuerto● Boulevard Industrial● Palacio Municipal● Centro● Parque NacionalBy integrating healthcare facilities, public services, administrative areas, commercial zones, andmajor mobility corridors, the ropeway strengthens connections and improves the daily mobility forthe city.“We are very proud to have built the Teleférico Uruapan, a project that brings people closertogether, shortens distances that once seemed impossible, and transforms the daily lives ofthousands of families.
