Rope grips with torsion bar springs

In this case the grip is actuated directly by a lever, one end of which forms the grip jaw. The grip force is generated by four torsion bars. These are housed in two torsion tubes located to the left and right of the main body of the grip. The flanges of the torsion tubes form lugs and transmit the torque via a pivot-mounted jaw link onto the grip jaw lever. This design has two fixed end positions (open and closed). The grip passes around the station curve in the open position.

Advantages:
- The actuating lever and the movable grip jaw are one and the same part
- The torsion bars are weather-protected
- Easy dismantling of the hanger (merely by removing the guide roller)
- Compact construction

Disadvantages:
- High loads on bearings; special bushes had to be developed for this reason
- The grip has to be stripped down to allow visual inspection of the torsion bars
